New Beginnings

My first couple of days in my new home I began exploring the city of Wellington. On the first day that I arrived I walked around the city and to the grocery store with two New Zealand guys from my building Blake and Jack. They love to laugh at my "accent" and have tried teaching me New Zealander slang, so I don't embarrass them. After exploring the parts of the city near by and the grocery store I got all settled into my three-bedroom apartment. However it has been pretty lonely lately as all the New Zealanders, including my roommates don't move in until Sunday.

I have been adjusting just fine to my new home here in Wellington; I’m on the 9th floor of my high-rise apartment building over looking the city. It is a beautiful city with steep rolling hills and is very green with many pine trees and palm trees. The city is right on the ocean coast and looks over the clear aqua waters of the Wellington Harbor.

On my first full day in Wellington, My friend Kelley (from CSU) and I explored the city. We walked down to the boardwalk, which is about a 5-minute walk from our apartments. At the boardwalk we went to little pop up village. Each shop is made out of a shipping container, lining the boardwalk. After shopping for a bit and talking to the locals we grabbed lunch and a drink at a brewery on the wharf looking out on the ocean. Though it was a very windy day out and many of our French fries got blown away. After all there is a reason they call it Windy Welly here. We later walked to the town square and went to a local NZ art museum.

On our way home we walked Cuba Street. Cuba Street is a street filled with shops and restaurants very similar to Pearl Street. They have many street performers and musicians, with a vibrant culture.
